Biden’s newest proposal: Free teeth for Gastonia residents.
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden will soon enact a whopping $1.8 trillion plan Wednesday for nation wide paid family leave, universal pre-k, free and discounted community college and subsidized child care in what would be one of the largest expansions of the federal social safety net for families and children.
Biden will officially introduce the American Families Plan at his first address before Congress Wednesday night. This will be the next piece of the "Build Back Better" economic agenda.
But one city caught Biden’s eye more than any other in the country - Gastonia, NC. After Biden’s recent trip to Charlotte back in January, the President elect took a small detour to Gastonia for lunch at the Waffle House located off of Gastonia-Bessemer City Highway.
“After my lunch there, I knew we had to help this city out” stated Biden at a recent press interview. The President claimed that during his experience at Waffle House, he “only counted 17 teeth between 5 employees”. Biden went on to say “It was alarming”.
We interviewed shift manager Misty Sue Lynn who claimed that the President miscounted somewhere. “We got 2 people on the grill, 2 waitresses, and the manager. We was running all over the place because we had to remake his food 3 times. He couldn’t remember if he got his hash browns smothered, covered, or capped.”
Lynn continued, “Ain’t no way he was able to count our teeth, so I really don’t care. Me personally, I know I at least had 15 teeth at the time, so he’s off somewhere. This is why we need Trump back in 2024.” Stated Lynn.
This concern of the President sparked an idea to include in the newest social safety net expansion - “Make Gastonia Smile Again” is the title of the proposed act. Anyone who is missing teeth in the Gastonia area, may be looking at a new set of chompers if the bill passes.
The graphic below shows the severity of toothlessness across the state of North Carolina. If you look closely, Gaston County is in the red, meaning the county is leading the way with most cases of snaggletooth.
“I want these Gastonia people to have teeth. They really need them, but we have to somehow, listen, when I was a kid, I had this dog that had a gimpy leg. We would take him around everywhere. We went to the fair. So, 22,000- million people need our help in Gastonia. You can’t smile without teeth. Teeth will be on the radar. Free teeth shouldn’t cost you. Come on, man” Biden stated.
The President plans to meet with Gastonia City Council in the upcoming months to further push the proposal.
